Chapter 6

For the sixth installment of FENWOMEN, we were honoured to be joined by Mary Chamberlain, author of  Fenwomen: A Portrait of Women in an English Village, celbrating fifty years since the book's original publication, alongside authors Rowe Irvin and Camilla Balshaw. In Chamberlain's book, someone says: “This is unreal country". Unreal comes from the root of not, not real, and surreal comes from the root of beyond real and we invited Chamberlain, Balshaw and Irvin to think through the slippages between real, unreal and surreal that this eastern landscape produces.

The event took place in the beautiful deconcecrated church of St Peter Hungate, in Norwich.
